IT-Trans 2024

The IT-TRANS 2024 once again transformed the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Center into a global showcase for intelligent solutions in public transport from 14 to 16 May. Around 250 exhibitors from 30 countries presented technologies for more efficient and sustainable mobility. The RegioWIN lighthouse projects were also represented and presented innovative concepts at the joint Karlsruhe MobilityLab stand:

The lighthouse project "regioKArgoTramTrain" is a response to the increasing demand for logistics and mobility services and transport infrastructure caused by urbanization and growing e-commerce sales. It is developing a concept for the dual use of rail infrastructure and vehicles for both passenger and freight transport.

The "LastMileCityLab" (LMCL) has established a unique real-world laboratory for urban logistics and transportation. The "Last Mile City Real Laboratory" focuses on logistics and transportation over the last and penultimate miles. Highlights include the "Mobile Post Office", the further development of ivy robot vehicles and the use of heavy-duty drones.

RegioWIN at TRK: Innovative lighthouse projects for the future

Long-term technological, ecological and demographic changes pose new challenges for regions, districts, cities and municipalities in Baden-Württemberg. New ideas and strategic concepts for shaping the future must be developed to overcome them. This is why the RegioWIN competition was launched. RegioWIN is an essential program element of the ERDF strategy of the state of Baden-Württemberg.

The RegioWIN competition calls on regions to further develop their future strategies together with regional stakeholders and to design innovative projects with a leverage effect. With a focus on smarter and sustainable development, the specific objectives of RegioWIN 2030 are

  • the expansion of research and innovation capacities,
  • the introduction of advanced technologies,
  • increasing the competitiveness of SMEs and
  • the development of skills for intelligent specialization and entrepreneurship.

You can read more about the specific goals of RegioWIN 2030 on the website of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Tourism.

Lighthouse projects of the TRK

The TRK has already been awarded five lighthouse projects. These projects translate European visions into concrete regional initiatives and have a lasting impact on the future of the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion.

2014-2020

  • regiomove: The regiomove project aims to create a new mobility network for the region. The regiomove app enables seamless, intermodal route planning, booking and payment for public and private transportation in the Karlsruhe region.
  • efeuCampus Bruchsal: With a focus on the development of solutions for urban freight logistics, the efeuCampus project "Urban logistics on the last mile" aims to sustainably improve the quality of life in cities.

2021-2027

  • RegioKArgoTramTrain: The "RegioKArgoTramTrain" initiative in the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion aims to research new concepts for the transportation of goods and delivery traffic, with a focus on shifting traffic from road to rail and emission-free last-mile delivery.
  • LastMileCityLab Bruchsal: The aim of the project is to revolutionize urban freight transport. Ideas such as mobile post offices and robust heavy-duty drones are not only tested in the laboratory, but also in real urban scenarios. The focus is on critical phases of goods delivery and economic sustainability.
  • RegioMORE: RegioMORE underpins the expertise of TRK in digitalization, (e-)mobility, resource efficiency, skilled worker development, citizen participation and securing the location and future. The project lays the foundation for a digital ecosystem that serves to break through rigid value chains.
