UITP-Karlsruhe Mobility Innovation Partnership: background and special features

The signing of the partnership agreement in April 2019 between the UITP, "The International Association of Public Transport", TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe GmbH (TRK GmbH) and leading regional mobility stakeholders was the starting signal for the "UITP-Karlsruhe Mobility Innovation Partnership". The UITP, which is based in Brussels and has 1,900 member organizations from 100 countries, has concluded a cooperation agreement with TRK GmbH, thereby further intensifying its collaboration with local mobility players. It is a unique selling point of the Karlsruhe Mobility Lab, which is continuing to raise its international profile as a forward-looking mobility region with a high level of innovation expertise. The partnership is underpinned by a TRK-UITP liaison office in Karlsruhe, which is just as much a novelty as the regional UITP training center.

The liaison office serves to expand cooperation and represent common interests. It is supported by the combined strength of regional mobility expertise from business, science and public institutions. The founding partners are TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe GmbH:

As an interface between the UITP and TRK , a regional training center has been set up under the name UITP-Regional Training Centre Karlsruhe. At the UITP Regional Training Centre Karlsruhe, international mobility experts provide insights into important topics and current trends in the world of public transportation. Participants can, for example, get to know the solutions for traffic design and optimization from leading global companies such as INIT SE and the PTV Group or TTK and the Karlsruhe transport companies and familiarize themselves with the latest developments from the scientific institutions KIT, HKA and FZI in the field of networked and automated driving and alternative vehicle drives.

Training program of the UITP Regional Training Centre Karlsruhe

The UITP Regional Training Centre Karlsruhe regularly organizes training courses for public transport professionals. The training courses, which take place three times a year, cover a variety of topics including ticketing, bus planning and scheduling, cybersecurity, automated mobility and mobility as a service. The theoretical input from workshops is reinforced by on-site work shadowing, which in the past has included visits to important locations such as the Kombilösung, the Karlsruhe Transport Association control center and the Baden-Württemberg Autonomous Driving Test Field.

Over the years, the UITP Regional Training Center Karlsruhe has held a large number of training courses both in Karlsruhe and online, establishing itself internationally. Mobility experts from various transport operators and companies around the world have visited Karlsruhe to learn more about a wide range of mobility topics or to share their experiences as speakers.
