RE²combine aims to create a network between actors from the the research, the industry and public administration, to by-product and waste streams to make better use of. In the current project phase we are focusing on the value chains of the wood and paper industry. We are examining these for innovation potential and network relevant players from the region with each otherin order to itheir needs formulate and promote cooperation in the development of new technologies.
On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the workshop "Innovation potential in the wood and paper industry" took place from 1:00 - 4:30 p.m. at the Gründerzentrum in Rastatt.
After an introduction by TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe GmbH, Jürgen Härer (Department 54 Wood-based Economy at the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection, coordinator of the BW timber construction offensive) gave a keynote speech on the topic of "Forest development - the basis for the value chain". Michael Stein (Department 44 Bioeconomy at the same ministry) gave valuable insights into the "State Strategy Sustainable Bioeconomy BW"
This was followed by a brief presentation of the three subject areas: Erna Nawrath (Technikum Laubholz GmbH) presented "Innovative recycling methods for fiber utilization", Lukas Walter (DHBW Karlsruhe - AG Polymer Sciences) spoke about "Everything but wood: the use of bark, leaves and resin" and Daniel Fischer (KIT IEB - Professorship Digital Design and Fabrication) presented "Digital upcycling of wood residues into load-bearing components".
This was followed by a round of introductions in which ideas, technology offerings and needs were presented and discussed.
The previously recorded offerings and needs were discussed in detail in a lively group discussion and opportunities for cooperation were explored
The event concluded with a summary and an outlook on the next steps and the continuation of the initiative.
The RE²combine project is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection as part of the Baden-Württemberg state strategy for a sustainable bioeconomy, financed by state funds approved by the Baden-Württemberg state parliament.
