Three amateur artists win the KULT2024 for "Freedom Art"

On Sunday, November 24, 2024, the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion together with the Karlsruhe CulturalRegion awarded the KULT2024 to three amateur visual artists in front of around 50 guests and also presented them with an award. The winners come from Bruchsal, Ötigheim and Rastatt. The award ceremony at the Städtische Galerie Fruchthalle in Rastatt was also the vernissage for the exhibition there, where the 16 pictures judged best by the six-member jury will be on display until mid-December. "We didn't make the decision easy for ourselves as a jury. But in the end we were very unanimous as to who should receive this year's KULT. I would like to thank everyone who surprised us with their creativity and talent on the theme of freedom art," said the chairman of the KulturRegion Karlsruhe and the prize jury, Mayor Dr. Albert Käuflein.

One of the prizewinners was student Theresa Martin from Bruchsal with her admonishing work "Freedom in Flames" from a poster campaign by the Bruchsal Music and Art School on the subject of freedom. Rastatt artist Ramona van Stavel also impressed the jury with her expressive depiction of a demonstrating Iranian singer entitled "Womanrights is just another word for nothing left to lose". The KULT2024 also went to Ruth Becker from Ötigheim for her work "First comes prosperity, then comes democracy". The jury also recognized seventeen-year-old student Dlkhwaz Yousif for his painting "Sunset".

"This year's KULT competition has once again shown us that art and culture can also reach an outstanding level in the amateur sector. With the KULT, we are creating a public platform to present exemplary work and activities," emphasized the Managing Director of TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe GmbH, Jochen Ehlgötz, in a panel discussion during the award ceremony. The competition for the eighth edition of the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion Culture Prize was once again aimed at amateur artists, this time from the field of art. "This year, the theme of freedom ran like a red thread through the projects and initiatives of the KulturRegion Karlsruhe in commemoration of 175 years of the Baden Revolution and 75 years of the Basic Law. So it was obvious for us to also announce the KULT2024 on this theme," explained project manager Dr Volkmar Baumgärtner from the management of KulturRegion Karlsruhe, which was once again responsible for the concept and organization of the KULT.

A total of 68 works of art were submitted on the theme of "Freedom Art", a good half of which were shortlisted. A jury of six experts nominated 15 works for the exhibition and award ceremony in the Fruchthalle Municipal Gallery in Rastatt and proposed the work by Dlkhwaz Yousif for recognition. A jury of six, also chaired by Mayor Dr. Albert Käuflein, then selected three prize winners on Sunday and awarded the student, originally from Iraq, a commendation. The KULT2024 was endowed with a total of 2,000 euros, which was divided equally between the three winners.
