Job search for specialists: What requirements do I need to meet?
Plan your job search directly and benefit from a six-month visa, which you can obtain from a German diplomatic mission abroad. All information on the application requirements can be found on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.
To apply for a work search visa, you must have completed vocational or academic training and be able to finance your own living expenses during your residence permit. This visa gives you the opportunity to look for a suitable job for up to 6 months.
As soon as you have found the ideal job, you can easily apply for the necessary residence permit and of course remain in Germany. Have you completed your studies at a German university? Congratulations! You can use the following 1.5 years to look for a suitable job after graduation and start your professional journey in Germany. - Non-EU and non-EEA citizens can come directly to Germany with a university degree or completed vocational training and a visa to look for work. The qualifications must be recognized or comparable to a German educational qualification.
- Non-EU citizens are permitted to look for a job in Germany for up to six months with a job search visa.
- For international graduates of German universities, the residence permit is extended for up to 18 months after successful completion of their studies in order to look for gainful employment.
You are not allowed to work with a job-seeking visa (Sec. 18c (1) Sentence 2 AufenthG). If you have found a suitable job, you can apply for an EU Blue Card or another residence permit for the purpose of gainful employment in Germany and stay in Germany without leaving the country first.
